Project Description

Heat Maps

The images below show heat maps from the modeling software that demonstrate the difference in peak heating demand both With and Without Infinite-R™. The result showed a 27% reduction in heating consumption. This result also shows how Infinite-R™ can be used to downsize HVAC systems.

Cooling Performance

Again, the images below show heat maps from the modeling software that demonstrate the difference in peak cooling demand both With and Without Infinite-R™. The result showed a 23% reduction in cooling energy consumption. This also demonstrates how Infinite-R™ can be used to downsize HVAC systems.

Temperature Models

The images below show the results of modeled temperature profiles of the building in both heating and cooling seasons when comparing WITH vs WITHOUT the Infinite-R™ PCM.

Project Description:

As one of the largest design/build construction companies in the USA, Kiewit has continued to be on the frontier of sustainability and intelligent solutions to difficult problems. Not surprisingly they have had a fascination with phase change materials that has helped provide the technology with the platform needed to bring the attention it needs within the Design/Build community.

After executing one of the early pioneering projects using phase change materials at the Olympic Archery Training Center in San Diego, CA, Kiewit made the decision to include this technology in their very own Kiewit Training Center in Omaha, NE.

The training center is the face of what is commonly known as Kiewit University, where Kiewit’s team members learn directly from top experts and share knowledge, best practices and experiences with other employees across the company.

A total of 27,000sf of Infinite-RTM was installed throughout the new building to help reduce the ongoing demands for heating and cooling. Infinite-RTM was installed on walls and over ceilings in strategic areas that were identified to have wider temperature swings.

The project was designed to the USGBC’s LEED program, and Infinite- RTM was an important component toward earning that certification.

Extensive modeling was performed to gauge the impact of the PCM, demonstrating 23% cooling savings and 27% heating savings.
